To kick off Earth Week 2022, the Office of Sustainability invites West Virginia University faculty, staff and students to recycle personally-owned electronics to Area 81 (parking lot outside Mountaineer Station) on Monday, April 18, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Acceptable electronics include computers, laptops, printers, toner and inkjet cartridges, cell phones, cables/wires, etc. Note: No televisions, lamps, vacuums or appliances/white goods will be accepted.
We also have compiled a list of other Earth Week activities hosted by various departments across WVU.
Tuesday, April 19
- Campus Litter Cleanup Effort – Join the Office of Sustainability to show your Mountaineer pride by making our campus shine. All materials will be provided.
- Rain Garden Cleanup – Join the Tree Campus Committee to clear out invasive plants in rain gardens near the CPASS building. These gardens function to capture and filter stormwater and are tree nurseries for saplings before they get planted in other areas of campus.
Wednesday, April 20
- Reusable Utensil Giveaway – Stop by the sustainability booth in front of each dining hall to learn about the reusable to-go box program. The first 100 people at each hall will receive a free all-in-one reusable utensil. A WVU dining plan is not required to be eligible.
- WVU Dining Earth Day Menu – To celebrate Earth Day, WVU Dining chefs have curated unique plant-based menus for each dining hall today! Visit the WVU Dining Services website for details.
Thursday, April 21
- Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony – Join WVU's Tree Campus Committee as a new tree is planted on the Evansdale campus and learn more about what this group is doing to protect and care for current trees and how to increase tree diversity on campus.
Friday, April 22 (Earth Day)
- Make It, Take It Seed Planting Kit – Stop by the Downtown Refresh Box to make a free seed planting kit to take home and grow. Themed kits include grow pizza (basil, chive, oregano and tomato seeds), grow salsa (cilantro, chive, jalapeno and tomato seeds) and grow a salad (carrot, cucumber, kale and lettuce seeds).
The Office of Sustainability also has released a new water bottle filling station guide that indicates where each station is located on campus. As part of Earth Week, the campus community is invited to complete the Fill It! Photo Challenge by filling up their bottle at one of the stations and posting it on any one of our social media pages for a chance to win a prize.
Thank you for doing your part to help gold and blue make green during Earth Week – and every week.
