Ridgewood - Locals will be able to safety discard their tangled piles of unused cables, out-of-date electronics and more at an e-waste recycling event in Ridgewood later this month.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26, residents can bring their unwanted electronics to Rosemary’s Playground on Fairview Avenue between Woodbine Street and Madison Street to be hauled off and recycled.

Items that will be accepted include working and non-working computers, monitors, printers and scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, TVs, VCRs and DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, cell phones and PDA’s.

The event was organized by NYC Parks and the Friends of Rosemary’s Playground in partnership with the Lower East Side Ecology Center and State Sen. Joseph Addabbo.

“With the sanitation laws seemingly always changing, it can get confusing on what can legally be thrown out with your curbside recycling,” Addabbo said in a statement. “So if you got some new electronics over the holiday season and need a place to get rid of your old ones, come down to Rosemary’s Playground and take part in this great event.”

Scheduled e-waste curbside pickup is currently available in Western Queens, including Community Board 5 where the event is taking place, for buildings with less than 10 units.

Larger buildings can also enroll into the Department of Sanitation’s ecycleNYC program, which provides a free collection bin residents can use specifically for electronic waste.

The e-recycling event will run until 4 p.m. and will take place rain or shine.
