Glass recycling organization offers pickup service

In Western Montana, glass recycling is hard to come by.

Recycling Works is the only recycling organization in Western Montana.

That’s why they hosted a drop-off event Sunday at Imagine Nation Brewery in Missoula.

People showed up to drop what they’ve collected for months.

“We had one in April and it was this busy, too. People have been storing their glass for a long time,” said Sarah Nesci of Recycling Works.

People like Gail Baer and her husband Bill traveled all the way from Idaho to drop their glass for recycling.

“I’ve been following Recycling Works for a while on Facebook and decided it was worth a trip to Missoula. We come here to go shopping anyway,” said Baer.

Nesci said in the past nine months, they’ve seen the demand for glass recycling.

“We know that a lot of people in surrounding communities really want to take advantage of it to that’s really the reason we hold them because we get people from Stevensville, Arlee and Frenchtown,” said Nesci.

She also encouraged people to sign up for their glass pickup service.

It costs between $9 and $12. People there on Sunday paid $5 per five gallon bucket.

“You get one of our five gallon bins, you pay a monthly fee and we come by just like the regular garbage or recycling service. We’ll pick it up from your alley or curb,” Nesci said.

From Missoula, the glass goes to Salt Lake City. That’s where the nearest glass processing facility is.
