SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has set Friday, November 15, 2024 as America Recycles Day. Residents of the Tennessee Valley will be able to participate in the national festivities with the assistance of Goodwill Industries of the Greater Chattanooga (GIGC).
Over 9 million pounds of debris were diverted from landfills in Northwest Georgia and Southeast Tennessee last year by the GIGC region. In 2023, Goodwill Donation Xpress Centers successfully recycled about 140,000 pounds of devices in partnership with Dell Reconnect and EPB.

In order to participate in the national recycling campaign, Goodwill encouraged locals to donate items such as apparel, shoes, accessories, books, furniture, appliances, electronics, linens, sporting goods, and household accessories to Goodwill donation facilities in their area. To make it easier for homeowners to drop off belongings at the most convenient location, the firm website offers an interactive map.
In the meanwhile, the EPA encouraged citizens to recycle properly throughout the year, not just on America Recycles Day. In 1960, the United States' recycling rate was less than 7%; by 2023, it had risen to 32%. Before the current decade ends, the Agency wants to reach a 50% recycling rate.
