SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Goodwill Thrift Store and Donation Center, located near 48th and Vine Streets will host an electronics recycling drive this Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. The free event, hosted on the occasion of the America Recycles Day, is aimed at encouraging the public to responsibly recycle their unused electronic items.

Commenting on the event, Alia Hurst, Goodwill’s donations acquisition specialist noted that the event is being held with the sole goal to prevent as much electronic waste as possible. Goodwill is always happy to offer an opportunity to the community to keep items out of the landfill, Hurst added.

The event will allow donors to drop off electronics of any brand in any condition. Those electronics which are in working condition will be sold in Goodwill’s thrift stores. The profit from sales will fund local programs that help local job seekers to overcome traditional barriers to employment.  Those not in working condition will be either refurbished or recycled.

Lincoln Goodwill had diverted around 105,542 pounds of electronics from the local landfill during the previous year. It hopes to increase the recycling volumes in the years to come.

The recycling drive will accept almost all electronics and small appliances. However, microwaves and televisions will not be accepted.
