Registration is open for Harrison’s “Too Toxic to Trash” recycling collection events for household hazardous and electronic waste in April.

The township is holding two collections this year with Environmental Coordination Services & Recycling. The first is on Saturday, April 27; the second on Saturday, Oct. 26. Both will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the township building on Municipal Drive.

They are open to anyone, not just township residents, Commissioner Bill Heasley said.

Things that can be brought include paint, paint thinner, cleaning products, pesticides, car and household batteries, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, pool chemicals, oil, anti-freeze, and flammables.

Fees are charged. Per pound charges are 60 cents for CRT televisions and monitors; 40 cents for all other electronics; 65 cents for devices containing Freon, $1.25 for paint, $2 for all other household hazardous waste, and $1.50 for universal waste.

Propane tanks will be taken for $8 each.

Things that are not accepted include explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, large appliances, pharmaceuticals, syringes, medical waste, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, devices containing mercury, compressed gas and tires.

This will be the fourth year for the program.

Advance registration is required. Officials said appointments are used so residents don’t find themselves waiting in long lines to drop things off.
