ALGONQUIN, IL - As residents have started to hang their holiday lights, some may have come upon some that no longer work. The village of Algonquin, in conjunction with Elgin Recycling, will be offering holiday light recycling through Jan. 22 at the Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive.
The collection period for holiday lights recycling has been extended this year for those who would like to recycle their holiday lights after the Christmas season. A contained for unusable or unwanted lights will be available in the Ganek Municipal Center lobby during normal business hours.
Items that will be accepted include mini-lights, C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, and extension cords of any length.
Residents are asked to remove any tinsel, plastic casing and other decoration items from the light sets before the items are dropped off. Elgin Recycling will recycle the lights collected at the Ganek Municipal Center with the hopes of helping Algonquin reduce waste sent to landfills.
Household light bulbs, floodlights, compact fluorescent bulbs or fluorescent bulbs will not be accepted.
