Honda Motor Co. Ltd. and Nissan Motor Corp. are expected to invest in the recycling of plastic used in electric vehicles, Nikkei reported on Sunday. The initiative is supposed to bring the Japanese automakers closer to the European Union's goal of including at least 25% recycled plastic in each new electric vehicle by 2031.
According to the report, Honda will cooperate with Mitsubishi Chemical Group and Toray Industries to develop technologies to bring the quality of recycled plastic "to a level on par with that of existing products." Meanwhile, Nissan is allegedly considering funding a recycling facility owned by its partner Renault, although details of the investment are currently unknown.
