Keep Calhoun Gordon Beautiful hosted its semi-annual recycling event Saturday and saw a steady flow of locals taking advantage of the opportunity to get rid of some unwanted items.
The event was held at Rock Bridge Community Church, 906 Curtis Parkway, giving Gordon County residents a chance to get rid of unwanted household items. The brisk weather -- including brief snow flurries -- didn't seem to affect the turnout.
Items accepted included soft plastics and films, hard plastics with or without numbers, plastic flower pots, computer towers, batteries and tools containing them, electronics except for TVs and old computer monitors, new or used tennis shoes, and eye glasses.
The event also included tire amnesty, allowing residents to drop off old tires that they no longer need. The tire amnesty was new for this year’s event, and saw hundreds of tires collected, and loaded onto a semi trailer by a team of volunteers.
