KIRKLAND, WA — Kirkland residents have a chance to safely dispose of used batteries this weekend, during the city's first recycling event of the year. The drop-offs tend to be popular and give neighbors an easy way to properly dispose of items that can't go in curbside bins.
City Hall will play host for the March 20 drive-thru event, accepting the following items:
- Household / alkaline batteries (AAAA, AAA, AA, C, D, 9v)
- Rechargeable batteries (including cell phone batteries)
- Button batteries
Kirkland officials expect Saturday's event to draw quite a crowd and encourage drivers to expect a wait.
Here are the details:
- Date: March 20, 2021
- Time: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Location: Kirkland City Hall (123 5th Avenue)
City officials write:
"Enter the City Hall parking lot through the side entrance on 1st Street. The line will loop around the building, with the drop-off by the front entrance of the building. This event is expected to be very busy — please be prepared for a wait and please be patient with our staff. Due to capacity limitations and cost this event is open to Kirkland residents only. City of Kirkland's recycling team funds this event."
Organizers ask all attendees to adhere to coronavirus precautions, including wearing face coverings and avoiding the event if they feel ill.
Preparation instructions:
- Place batteries in a sealed bag.
- Preferably, place batteries in your trunk, and staff will remove them. Alternatively, you can hand them to staff.
- This event is designed to be a drive-through event. For safety purposes, please drive rather than walk if possible.
- Wear a face covering.
- Do not attend if you have recently been in contact with anyone who has been exposed or tested positive for COVID-19. Do not attend if you feel unwell.
