SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Despite objections, the Lane County Board of Commissioners considered and approved two motions to expedite the building of the contentious proposed recycling complex.
In order to allow the facility's construction and operation, the first motion authorizes the County to sign the required agreements with Bulk Handling Systems (BHS). Additionally, it approved Lane County to finance the project with a principal amount not to exceed $35 million. A majority vote of 3-2 approved both resolutions.

Several community members raised their objections against the project during the public comments period. The motion, calling for forwarding the project’s approval to Lane County voters for the May 2025 election, failed by a majority vote.
Meanwhile, Dan Hurley, Lane County Public Works Director noted that the CleanLane facility is expected to divert over 80,000 tons of waste from the landfill every year. By doing so, it will extend the landfill’s lifespan by at least 20 years. The enclosed facility is unlikely to create any issues with odors. Furthermore, the project is expected to generate $272 million in Lane County regional economic activity, Hurley added.
