More than 71,000 tons of glass, 329,000 tons of paper and paper products, and 56,000 tons of plastics and plastic goods were recycled by the state's citizens in fiscal year 2024. At 723,174 tons, the amount of home recycled materials produced throughout the year was 19,000 tons more than the previous year.

The recycling sector in the state generates about $17 billion in economic output annually and sustains 72,500 employment. Recycling has significantly reduced taxpayer costs by boosting the value of recycled materials, preserving Michigan jobs, and enhancing environmental quality.

Recycling is not just the morally correct thing to do, but it's also the wise thing to do, according to Matt Flechter, EGLE recycling market development specialist.
