Missoula County to Open Hazardous Waste Disposal Site This Summer

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Missoula County expects its hazardous waste disposal facility to become fully operational this summer. The project had faced unprecedented delays since obtaining approval almost two years back. The year-round facility will help residents to get rid of their household hazardous waste piled up in garages and sheds.

The contract to establish the year-round disposal site was signed with U.S. Chemical two years back. It was proposed to start the facility at HomeResource, but the various steps needed for establishing the facility took longer than expected time to get completed. These included several critical decisions such as fixing of disposal costs for various materials, the County officials noted.

The County is reportedly working with the Montana Department of Labor and Industry to complete the inspection procedures. An application for license for the recycling center has already been submitted to state authorities. The safety devices, including dry chemical extinguisher has been tested and signed off on.

Elena Evans, Environmental Health Manager, Missoula City-County Health Department reminded that illegal dumping of hazardous materials causes severe environmental damages. The facility is expected to open in September this year, Evans added.
