More aluminium recycling muscle in Norway

Norwegian firm Speira has announced a ‘record investment’ to boost its aluminium processing capacity.

Speira is putting EUR 36 million into a new furnace at its foundry in Holmestrand. The upgrade replaces one that has been in operation for 50 years and will be completed in mid-2026.

With the new furnace, Speira will be able to process an additional 22 000 tonnes of scrap per year. Once up and running, the facility will be able to source half of its material from scrap.

Future proof

‘The new furnace will help cement our position as a leading player in rolled and recycled aluminum products,’ says plant manager Jon Gaasholt. ‘It also secures a large number of jobs in Holmestrand for the foreseeable future.’

He underlines that investing in new equipment is crucial to remain competitive.
