MRC’s Bye Bye Mattress Program Now Operational in Oregon

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Bye Bye Mattress recycling program in Oregon went into action on January 1, 2025, according to a statement released by the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC). Any mattress or foundation, regardless of its condition or date of purchase, is eligible for the legally mandated program. Waste mattresses are recycled by the initiative to create new, useful goods.

Since its founding in California, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, MRC has now expanded to Oregon, making it the first state to do so. A point-of-sale assessment fee on all mattresses and foundations provides all of the program's funding. In Oregon, each unit would cost $22.5. This fee must be shown on receipts by the sellers. Mattress and foundation producers, importers, distributors, and renovators selling their products in Oregon are required to register with MRC.

The bedding industry's dedication to recycling is reflected in MRC's growth into Oregon, according to Mike O'Donnell, Chief Operating Officer. He also thanked Oregon's mattress producers, merchants, and solid waste community for their unwavering support. He went on to say that MRC will keep creating and implementing cutting-edge mattress recycling solutions.
