New Facility to Bring Glass Recycling Back to Chattanooga

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Chattanooga City announced that a new facility by local company Overlooked Materials will bring glass recycling back to the city. Earlier this week, the company had launched the new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony, which was attended among others by Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly.

According to the Mayor, the city has been lacking curbside recycling options for the material since 2018, ever since the City government terminated the services. The opening of the facility will help the City to find a solution to a problem that has been hurting it for several years now. It must be noted that a good majority of the glass in the region used to end up in landfills.

Overlooked Materials offers both residential and commercial curbside collection services. Residents of single and multi-family homes will be eligible to be part of the service. Also, it will cover businesses in Chattanooga, Red Bank, and Lookout Mountain. The glass from the collection bins will be picked up by the company on scheduled pickup days. The service will be expanded to more areas in future.

The collected glass materials will be processed by the company at its warehouse facility located at 951 S. Watkins St. It will use modern glass pulverizing technology to crush glass into useful materials, which in turn could be used in construction projects.
