SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Oklahoma City plans to hold an annual mass collection event at the State Fairgrounds. The event will be held on Saturday, April 6, 9 AM to 1 PM. The event will be open to Oklahoma City residents, who will need to produce a copy of current city water bill as proof of identification.
The collection event, organized by the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will provide residents to dispose of household hazardous waste materials, including tires, ammunition, prescription medications and a wide range of electronic items such as computers, printers, emergency battery backups, hard drives, fax machines, scanners, mice, keyboards, chords and cellular phones.

The computer parts will be broken down into a shippable form and will be collected by CleanEarth Inc., with whom the city has already entered into a contract.
Meantime, the press release noted that the event will not accept old televisions, business-related waste, syringes, liquids, inhalers, tire rims and wheels.
The city’s annual collection event held last year saw collection of 248,795 pounds of tires. Also, 14,628 pounds of recycled computers and accessories were also collected during the event.
Derek Johnson, the environmental protection superintendent noted that the event presents a great opportunity for residents to get rid of their unwanted tires and electronic waste, thereby preventing them from being illegally dumped or landfilled.
