Orange County Hazardous Waste Collection Event Touted as Huge Success

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Huntington Beach Corporate Yard hosted a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on September 14, 2024, organized by Orange County Waste & Recycling (OCWR).

Californians living in Orange County actively participated in the event. The event attracted more than 500 automobiles. Over 32,000 pounds of hazardous items were gathered throughout the event, comprising 14,000 pounds of hazardous waste, over 11,000 pounds of e-waste, and 7,200 pounds of latex paint.

The average vehicle count during the collection event recorded almost 94% surge when compared to the average turnout of around 172 vehicles on a typical Saturday operation. The event offered an easy opportunity for County residents to safely dispose of a wide range of materials including household chemicals, automotive products, fluorescent light bulbs, and various types of electronic waste.

The noteworthy rise in the participation rate demonstrates the community's strong commitment to environmental safety and public health. Furthermore, it emphasizes how important it is to continue holding community collection programs like this one, which will help keep useful materials out of landfills.
