Fire suppression operations continue on the north side of the bridge. Crews are currently being assisted by recycling plant staff to move bales and ensure all fires underneath the surface are extinguished.
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Crews with the El Paso Fire Department have been battling a large fire in South-Central El Paso since Tuesday afternoon, May 28.
The fire is at a recycling plant at Paisano and Coles. No injuries have been reported at this time. The fire was originally reported as a Condition 3, meaning lots of flame and smoke were visible. It was upgraded to a three alarm fire, a serious fire where more firefighters were requested.
At one point, 43 fire units and 100 firefighters were battling the blaze. El Paso Fire then said that it was bringing out 85 more firefighters.
Motorists have been told to avoid Paisano between Eucalyptus and Coles.
Fire at the south side was knocked down late Tuesday night, and crews checked for hotspots. North side of the fire is still undergoing fire suppression operations as of Tuesday night. No injuries reported. About 200 firefighters are fighting this fire
