Republic Services Hit GHG Emission Reduction Targets, Ahead of Schedule


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services, Inc., in its recently released 2023 Sustainability Report, highlighted the company’s sustainability initiatives and its commendable progress towards its 2030 goals. Upon comparison with the 2017 baseline, the company achieved a GHG emissions reduction of 15%, ahead of its interim target of 10% by 2025.

Republic Services reported 40% better OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate than the industry average. As part of its safety enhancement drive, it successfully installed over 2,200 collision-avoidance cameras in collection trucks.

In order to help its customers meet climate goals, the company opened Polymer Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, which happens to be the first-of-its-kind recycled plastics manufacturing facility in the entire North American region. Also, it announced launch of Blue Polymers joint venture project, which will focus on further purifying recycled plastics from Republic's Polymer Centers.

According to the report, Republic Services supported a total of 917 community projects through various charitable grants. Also, its sustainable neighborhood projects have positively impacted nearly 4.7 million people.

Jon Vander Ark, president and chief executive officer noted that the company reported significant investments and innovations to transform plastics circularity and advance decarbonization solutions.
