Republic Services Opened North Las Vegas Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services announced first-of-its-kind recycling facility in North Las Vegas. The Polymer Center will collect and recycle plastics collected locally to produce recycled plastics which in turn will be used in the manufacture of new consumer packaging. The Center is expected to produce more than 100 million pounds of recycled plastic each year.

The collected PET plastics will undergo a series of techniques including optical scanning, shredding and cleaning in caustic wash. The hot-washed PET flake thus produced will be used for manufacturing new PET beverage bottles. The HDPE and PP varieties will be further passed through a series of optical and medium-infrared scanners.

Jon Vander Ark, president and chief executive officer at Republic Services said that the Polymer Center is another example of the company’s commitment to developing solutions that promote greater circularity.

Coca-Cola has signed in as one of the first customers of the Las Vegas Polymer Center, said Republic Services news release. The Center will commence supplies of rPET to Coca-Cola starting from January 2024.

Republic Services plans to open a network of Polymer Centres across the nation. The second such facility is scheduled to open in Indianapolis by late next year.
