Residential electronic recycling event is May 18 in Woodstock


RecyclingMonster - McHenry County Department of Health, Elgin Recycling and The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County are partnering to bring you the second of four recycling events in 2019.

From 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, May 18, McHenry County residents may drop off electronic devices at the McHenry County Government Center Administration building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

Accepted electronic devices will be: televisions and computer monitors, fee applies; computers including desktop, laptop, netbook, notebook, tablet and keyboards, and mice; printers, fax machines, scanners, small scale servers; DVD layers, DVD recorders, VCRs; video game consoles, portable digital music players; digital converter boxes, cable and satellite receivers; and alkaline batteries.

Fees apply to recycle TVs and computer monitors are $15 up to 20 inches and $25 for 21 inches or larger. Elgin Recycling will accept credit cards or cash on-site.

MCDH will accept alkaline batteries to recycle for free. Only alkaline AA, AAA, C, D and 9V will be accepted. No rechargeable or other types of batteries will be accepted.

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County also will collect fluorescent tubes for a cost of 50 cents to $1 each; clean Styrofoam; packing peanuts; reusable Bubble Wrap and cloth items such as clothing, linens, rags and shoes tied together by the laces.

Electronic devices also can be dropped off at Elgin Recycling, 5114 E Terra Cotta, Crystal Lake from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
