San Diego Announced Community-Driven Trash and Debris Cleanups

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of San Diego announced a series of community-driven trash and debris clean-ups. As per city leaders, a small group of volunteers will collect litter from their neighbourhoods on second Saturdays of every month starting this Saturday, 13, July 8 AM.

Mayor Todd Gloria said that the community collaboration aims to work together to make San Diego a better place to live in. It will help the City to prevent pollution and at the same time beautify their neighbourhoods.

The trash and debris cleanup efforts will be co-ordinated by the non-profit Street Stewards. Also, I Love A Clean San Diego, The Downtown San Diego Partnership, Think Blue San Diego, Ace Parking and San Diegans Together Tackling Homelessness will be part of the events.

The City noted that the initial cleanup event downtown requires nearly 200 volunteers. Those who wish to be volunteers can register at cleansd.org. The kickoff event to be held in the Civic Concourse outside City Hall will be attended by Mayor Todd Gloria and City Councilman Stephen Whitburn.

The cleanup events are critical as more than 80% of the marine debris is estimated to originate from inland sources.
