The Village of Schaumburg Environmental Committee and Schaumburg Township District Library are co-hosting Schaumburg's Community Recycling Event scheduled for Saturday, April 24 at Wintrust Field.
The event, which is available to the community, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the west lot of Wintrust Field, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road, in Schaumburg. This is a drive-up event; participants will not need to leave their vehicles. Individuals are required to wear face-coverings during the event.
DocuShred will provide document destruction that will be available until the truck reaches capacity. There will be a limit of two boxes per vehicle, no exceptions. No business or institutional documents will be accepted. This is a drop-and-go event.
Earthpaint will accept both latex and oil-based paint for recycling for a fee. Charges range from $2.50 per quart and $5 per gallon for latex paint and up to $5 per quart and $9 per gallon for oil-based paint and stains. A full list of fees is listed on the village's website at www.schaumburg.com/recyclingevent. Earthpaint will accept cash or credit onsite. Charges will be based on the type of can that is disposed, not on the amount of material in the can.
Additionally, electronic items, such as computers, printers, telephones, cell phones, radios, small appliances such as microwaves, holiday light strands, extension cords and computer wiring will be accepted. Charges will apply for eligible televisions; please visit the village website at www.schaumburg.com/recyclingevent for a complete list of all acceptable electronic items and their associated fees.
The event also accepts books, clothing, textiles, automotive and household batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, vegetable oil, bicycles, eyeglasses, American flags, fire extinguishers and CFL bulbs.
The event will not accept hazardous waste, white goods, gas cylinders or Freon-containing items such as air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
Cub Scout Pack 458 is collecting clean plastic: Produce bags, grocery bags, ice bags, resealable bags, cereal bags, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap, plastic shipping envelopes, salt bags, case overwrap, pallet wrap, stretch film, and wood pellet bags.
Schaumburg residents who want to avoid the lines at the Community Recycling Event for document destruction are invited to drop off a maximum of two boxes of paper from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 10, at Wintrust Field, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg. Document destruction will be provided to Schaumburg residents only until the truck reaches capacity. Face-coverings and IDs will be required for this drop-and-go event.
