State Rep Raises Awareness For Aurora Recycling Facility, Kane County Recycling Centers

As part of continued efforts to create a better environmental future for her community, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is raising awareness of the Kane County Recycling Center in Aurora, as well as several other recycling centers in Kane County, where the community can dispose of recyclable materials in an environmentally-friendly manner.

Anyone who needs to get rid of electronics, scrap metal, clothing, textiles, books, paper, cardboard and shredded paper, can do so at the Kane County Recycling Center-Aurora for free.

TVs, monitors, aerosol cans and small propane tanks will be accepted for a small fee. It is located at 911 N. Lake St. in Aurora. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Fighting for a more sustainable future will always be a priority for me, and recycling is a concrete step towards that future that everyone can take,” Hernandez said. “The Aurora Recycling Center provides opportunities for our community to be more green, and I encourage anyone who needs to dispose of recycling in an environmentally-friendly manner to drop them off there.”

Kane County operates two other recycling centers in the area as well. For locations and more information, visit https://www.countyofkane.org/Recycling/Pages/Recycling-Centers.aspx.

Hernandez has given precedence to preserving the environment and combating climate change during her time in the General Assembly. As a member of the Energy and Environment Committee, she played a key role in facilitating the passage of the recent Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, which addressed Illinois’ clean energy future, among other environmental issues.

“Addressing climate change is a matter of national importance; postponing action on this issue is no longer an option,” Hernandez said. “In the coming decades, this issue will only become more pressing. Our recent environmental bill was a big step forward, but a great deal more lawmaking will be required, and I don’t plan on slowing my work following this victory.”
