SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee recently approved the Strategies to Eliminate Waste and Accelerate Recycling Development (STEWARD) Act, which aims to improve data collecting and monitor textile waste and recycling. On February 5, 2025, the Committee unanimously adopted the Act.
The STEWARD Act is regarded as a continuation of earlier laws that improved packaging, plastics, and organic waste recycling infrastructure and accountability procedures. In an effort to improve textile recycling, the law also suggests new data collection guidelines.
