SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Taos County has relaunched its recycling program after nearly three years. The initiative, which had previously been halted owing to funding constraints, has been reintroduced with the assistance of Recycling and Illegal Dumping (RAID) grants from the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED).
The grants apparently covered the purchase of new balers. The County was allotted $78,000 through the grant towards purchase of the first baler last year. Additionally, the County received $101,000 for the second baler this year.

Edward Martinez, Solid Waste Director, Taos County highlighted the significance of the program’s return. According to him, the resumption of the program will help prevent significant volumes of waste, including plastic, aluminum and cardboard from ending up in county landfills.
The relaunched initiative seeks to establish a sustainable recycling system by keeping items out of landfills. This will not only lengthen the life of local landfills, but will also minimize the amount of rubbish sent to other counties. Martinez also mentioned that it has the potential to generate big cash for Taos County.
he residents could bring their recyclables to any of the eight transfer stations within the county.
