Tulsa curbside recycling resumes Monday

TULSA, Okla. — Curbside recycling in Tulsa is starting back up on Monday.

Starting at 5 a.m. Monday morning, Tulsa residents are asked to start separating their trash from their recyclables again.

Tulsa Recycle and Transfer was shut down in April 2021 after the building caught on fire.

It was determined an improperly recycled lithium-ion battery started the fire.

The plant had to tear down their old system, which that called Mr. Murph, and install a new system.

After almost a year of delays and frustrations, the system is ready.

So the staff at the Tulsa recycling plant is asking residents to make sure they’re only recycling approved items.

Staff at the plant says they’ve seen recycling cans used as second trashcans while recycling has been out of service.

But starting Monday, if those cans are contaminated, they will not be serviced.

Get the blue recycling cans ready for pickup by 5 a.m. on your pickup day.

The City of Tulsa says all batteries should be recycled through the M.e.t. and specialized battery stores.
