SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) announced that it has approved grant funding of $101,100 to a total of 14 shortlisted applicants. The funding is through the DEP Covered Electronic Devices (CED) recycling grant program, established under the WVDEP’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) program.
The CED recycling grant program requires manufacturers of electronic devices to register their brands. The fee collected makes counties and municipalities eligible to apply for the grants, which in turn must be used to organize e-waste collection events and support ongoing collection programs.
The top three grant recipients include Randolph County Commission, Mingo County Commission and Pleasants County Solid Waste Authority, which received a grant funding of $9,000 each.
Randolph County Commission will use the grant to fund contractor fees and advertising to hold a CED collection event. Mingo County Commission will use it to fund contractor fees to hold a CED collection event. Meantime, Pleasants County Solid Waste Authority will fund contractor fees and a legal advertisement to hold a CED collection event using the grant money.
