York County to Hold Household Chemical Collection/Computer Recycling/Paper Shredding Event

YORK COUNTY — The Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority (VPPSA) will hold a drop-off event for household chemicals disposal, computer recycling and paper shredding at York County Utility Operations, 105 Service Dr. from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on March 12.

York County residents as well as those from surrounding localities may deliver a variety of household chemicals for proper and safe disposal. Acceptable materials include household maintenance and cleaning products, paints, fuels, automotive chemicals, and lawn and garden products. The complete list is on the Waste Management Center website.

For those wishing to get rid of old computer equipment, the event will also take desktop and laptop computers, servers, computer monitors, cell phones, wiring, printers, fax machines, scanners and photocopiers. Televisions will not be accepted.

Additionally, there will be an opportunity to shred personal paperwork on-site.  A shredding truck will be provided for citizens to bring up to five boxes of paperwork to be shredded.  Staple and paperclip removal is not necessary, however binders, three-ring notebooks, accordion files and other metal objects are not acceptable to include in shredding materials.

This will be a drive through event. When pulling up, a VPPSA employee will ask the driver what county they live in and may ask for proof of residence. The staff on hand will unload the car. Drivers and passengers are asked to stay in the vehicle.
