Green waste is now ground up and dumped into rows, then turned and monitored to get microbes to transform it into compost -- a process that takes between 12-18 months.
The city’s goal is to help keep batteries out of the regular waste system and reduce the amount of battery fires in garbage trucks and recycling centers.
During the event, 182 cars stopped at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority to deposit their paper, which was shredded, baled and marketed to local companies to be recycled.
