Job Details

The Director of Capital Projects reports to the Vice-President, Engineering & Capital Projects. Their responsibilities include overseeing Lithion’s capital projects, including establishing a project office. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for developing the new hydrometallurgy plant project for Lithion. They will collaborate with engineering, technology development, operations teams, and external partners to execute and manage Lithion’s capital projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in developing the capital projects department’s strategy;
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a project office to guide the company’s project managers;
  • Establish and monitor capital project budgets;
  • Supervise a team of engineers (both internal and external) and project managers involved in capital project execution;
  • Create tools and processes for project planning, direction, organization, coordination, and control until project handover to the operations team;
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, approving deliverables;
  • Integrate and manage project risks;
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring execution aligns with the plan;
  • Escalate significant risks and issues;
  • Prepare and present project progress reports.

In the short term, for the development of the hydrometallurgy plant project, the Director’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop the project execution plan;
  • Contribute to the organizational structure and hiring plan;
  • Support interactions with local municipalities, governments, and the community;
  • Coordinate internal resources, subcontractors, and suppliers;
  • Control the project to manage changes related to the project scope, schedule, and associated costs;
  • Produce various reports to track the progress of project work and provide status updates to management;
  • Implement risk management and mitigation actions;
  • Facilitate smooth communication between internal and external stakeholders;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

Skills and Profile

  • Minimum of 10 years of project management experience;
  • Experience in managing external suppliers and professional services;
  • Technical knowledge in chemical processes is an asset;
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering;
  • Training in project management or PMP certification is advantageous;
  • Fluent in both spoken and written bilingual (English and French);
  • Excellent writing abilities in both English and French;
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Autonomy, proactivity, and good organizational skills;
  • Understanding the need to accomplish tasks independently before the team is fully developed;
  • Dynamic, committed, and creative personality;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team;
  • Practical knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite;
