Health and Safety Advisor

Job Details

Your first mandate will be creating and implementing health and safety policies and procedures. In addition, you will participate in employee training and contribute to risk assessment. By collaborating with the different teams, you will ensure continuous compliance with safety standards and thus promote a safe working environment within Lithion Technologies.

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, implementation and updating of occupational health and safety policies per legislative standards and industry best practices;
  • Implement safe work procedures and train employees;
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety laws and regulations;
  • Maintain and communicate the emergency response plan;
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in the creation of health and safety training programs;
  • Develop awareness campaigns related to Lithion’s health and safety culture;
  • Carry out inspection tours of workplaces to ensure compliance with safety standards;
  • Assist in the identification and risk assessment of lithium-ion battery recycling operations;
  • Maintain the risk register and monitor the action plan;
  • Participate in incident investigations, identify causes and recommend corrective measures;
  • Collaborate with operational teams to implement post-incident action plans;
  • Monitor developments in health and safety laws and regulations;
  • Provide support and advice to managers and employees on health and safety issues;
  • Establish a hazardous materials register;
  • Establish and participate in the Health and Safety Committee;
  • Participate in the employee onboarding program;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in health and safety or human resources or equivalent work experience;
  • At least 5 years of health and safety experience in an industrial setting;
  • Experience in a classified plant (an asset);
  • In-depth knowledge of local health and safety laws and regulations;
  • Experience in implementing risk management programs (lockout, confined space, working at height, hot work, etc.);
  • Experience in an industrial environment with chemicals;
  • Good knowledge of WHMIS/GHS, compatibility, storage and handling of materials;
  • Experience in machine safety;
  • Communication and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to transfer knowledge (training);
  • Autonomy, initiative and sharp sense of priorities;
  • Adaptability and sound judgment;
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and uncertainty; 
  • Bilingualism (French-English) written and spoken;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, mainly Excel.
