The upgrade project has already received a grant of more than $282,000 from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and $171,000 from the Kellogg Foundation. In addition, the recycling facility will contribute approximately $100,000 toward the cost of upgrades.

Commenting on the project, Executive Director Julie Cribley said that it is very much excited to construct a new building and office space. The proposed new building will be only for processing activities. The facility will continue to collect materials on-site. The project was delayed due to various reasons including delays on account of Covid-19 pandemic and concerns raised by adjacent property.

The facility will initially buy two bailers for operations inside the new building. The compactors to operate outside the building will be purchased afterwards. It must be noted that the facility currently operates four compactors, which are owned by GFL.
