It must be noted that the current agreement allows Gill Hauling, Inc. to increase rates by 2% annually through the remainder of the contract.
The City, in a news release, noted that the new agreement is in the best interest of its customers and that the city staff had worked with a solid waste consultant and the contractor on this agreement. The overall terms of the agreement are favourable, it noted. The low-volume users will be provided with an option to downsize to a smaller container so as to save costs. The agreement proposes recycling collection every other week.
Furthermore, the Council has the right to deny the agreement and bid out solid waste collection, recycling and disposal services to outside parties.
