Fayette County Announced New Recycling Rules

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Fayette County and its Transfer Station operator, Amwaste have announced new recycling rules.

As per the change in program announced now, 20 tons of municipal solid waste will be diverted to the RePower South facility in Montgomery, AL every month. This will help the county to exceed the weight of materials collected at the Transfer Station per month. It must be noted that RePower South produces recycled commodities as well as fuel from waste materials.

The new program, which will go into effect starting March this year, will eliminate the need for sorting recyclable material at Transfer Station. It will be implemented at zero cost to the county and its residents.

The new program will not accept cardboard contaminated with food, attached to other materials such as Styrofoam or wood, or mixed with other waste material. Plastics and paper will not be accepted as recyclables. These have to be disposed of along with other solid waste. Also, cardboard recycling will be limited to county residents, while only cardboard materials generated at home would be accepted. Meantime, the program will continue to accept metals for recycling.

The county news release committed to explore new recycling opportunities at local level, by promoting environmentally sustainable waste management solutions.
