City of Dayton Announced Change in Trash and Recycling Schedule

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Dayton is set to implement changes to trash and recycling pickup schedule. This is the first change in more than 12 years. The move is likely to impact nearly 15,000 households starting this month.

According to Fred Stovall, Dayton’s director of public works, the proposed changes follow an extensive review of the city’s trash and recycling collection routes and services. The changes are expected to boost collection efficiencies and offer better services to residents, Stovall added.

A few households will see changes to their trash collection weeks, whereas others may have their recycling bins emptied on different days. Some households will have changes to both trash and recycling pickups.

All households with changes to their trash and recycling collections will receive a letter from the City detailing the changes. Also, signages will be posted at high-volume locations in the most impacted neighborhoods. The new collection schedule will come into effect from the week of March 27.

Prior to this, the City had implemented change in recycling schedule in 2010. At that time, the City had shifted to Monday to Thursday collection cycle, by reserving Fridays for bulk pickups. Also, it eliminated waste pickups on holidays, as part of its cost saving effort.
