SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Baltimore County Department of Public Works (DPW) announced its decision to pause trash and recycling collection on Tuesday, August 6, in response to the tragic death of crewmember Ronald Silver II last week. This demonstrates DPW’s commitment to employee safety.
DPW will organize a mandatory heat safety training session on that day. This session will focus on the OSHA guidelines for recognizing the signs and symptoms of heat stroke and related illnesses, thus making employees well-equipped to recognize various heat stress hazards.

The normal duties will resume on Wednesday, August 7. A make-up day has been scheduled for Saturday, August 10.
The DPW press release noted that the mechanical street sweeping operations will continue as scheduled. Also, residential drop-off center and landfill operations will be unaffected by the change ion service schedule.
DPW noted that the Baltimore Police Department’s (BPD) Special Investigation Unit is conducting a review of the incident which led to Silver’s death. Also, it is assisting the Maryland Office of Safety and Health (MOSH) in their investigation. DPW is fully cooperating with both the efforts, it said.
