Recycle Ann Arbor Launched New Reuse and Repair Initiative

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Recycle Ann Arbor announced launch of Boost Reuse- a new zero waste initiative that focuses on reuse and repair. The new initiative is in line with Recycle Ann Arbor’s previously stated goal to reduce and divert municipal solid waste in Washtenaw County. The initiative is partly funded by a waste reduction sponsorship from the Washtenaw County Water Resources Materials Management Division.

The program is being implemented through collaboration with local community partners. It focuses on the benefits of reuse in preserving valuable natural resources by extending the product life. The program aims to nurture a culture of sustainability and responsibility. In addition, the reuse initiative will also lead to creation of local jobs.

Launched last week, the initiative now accepts used or unwanted bikes, which the residents could drop off at the Drop-Off Station or Recovery Yard. In return, the residents will be offered free entry to recycle their traditional recyclables on the same day for one-stop convenience. The usable and repairable bikes will be donated to local partner organizations, which in turn will be distributed to those in need. Those beyond repairs will be recycled at Recycle Ann Arbor facilities in order to recover useful parts.

The Boost Reuse initiative plans to host a number of reuse collection drives throughout the year.
