Recology Diverted 1.4 Million Tonnes of Materials from Landfills


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Leading West Coast resource recovery company Recology announced publication of its 2024 Sustainability Update, based on data for the previous year. The company delivered on key sustainability goals.

According to the report, Recology collected and processed approximately 1.4 million tons of recyclables and compostables in 2023. This has resulted in elimination of nearly 1.6 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The volume of recovered compostable materials exceeded 1 million tonnes, recording significant surge by 27% over the previous year, said the report.

The company had recently completed a $35 million modernization project at its Santa Rosa materials recovery facility. The investments by the company are mainly focused on expansion of its landfill gas-to-energy systems and additional capture of methane. Also, renewable or carbon-free electricity powered nearly 90% of the company facilities.

Sal Coniglio, CEO, Recology said that the ongoing focus on resource recovery positions the company to play a key role in building a circular future. The company is committed to continue its works towards its climate targets, by further decarbonizing its operations, he added.
