SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The public comment period for residents in unincorporated north Los Angeles County on a draft environmental impact report in connection with solid waste collection is due to come to an end on 5th September, 2024. The report was prepared by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works in collaboration with Dudek.
The report proposes to break down the north county into four service areas. The four proposed solid waste collection service areas are Acton/Agua Dulce; Antelope Valley East; Antelope Valley Central; and Antelope Valley West. The project aims to expand organic waste collection and diversion services as well as recycling services.

If approved, bids will be invited from solid waste hauling service provides for each service area. The selected haulers would provide source-separated collection of refuse, recyclables and organic waste to residential as well as commercial customers. Bulky item pickup would be provided upon request. The haulers will also be responsible for illegal dumping removal, the County press release said.
The draft report provides an analysis of the project’s overall impact on air quality. It projects 140 weekly collection trucks in 2025, which in turn would increase to 170 by 2045.
