Mecosta County Board of Commissioners Approved Multi-County Recycling Plan

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Mecosta County Board of Commissioners recently approved an agreement to create and operate a multi-county recycling scheme. The counties involved in the deal are Mecosta, Isabella, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Midland, Ogemaw, and Osceola.

Under the terms of the agreement, the counties must abide by the Minnesota state policy, which aims to increase the state's recycling rate from its current 19% to at least 30% by 2029 by emphasizing recycling more and focusing less on landfills.

The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) will be located in Isabella County. Every county is required to offer residents curbside pickup or drop-off options. After being collected, the waste will be sent to the Isabella County facility.

Every participating county will have a representative on the Materials Management Planning (MMP) Committee. The Committee will collaborate with the Designated Planning Agency (DPA), which will thereafter authorize services that are contracted out. To take part in the MMP's implementation, each county must elect a representative. They have to report back to the board of commissioners and attend the MMP Committee.

The meeting appointed Annette Coles, Building and Zoning director, as the DPA for Mecosta County.
