Janesville Recycling Company Cited by OSHA for Violations

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): According to a news statement from the U.S. Department of Labor, Unversal Recycling Technologies, a recycler located in Janesville, was cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for two repeat and six serious infractions, along with one other-than-serious violation. The regulatory body suggested that the business pay a $202,820 fine.

Authorities from OSHA claim that the business had not put in place sufficient safeguards to keep its workers from being overexposed to dangerous metals including cadmium and lead. It was unable to create a regulatory space to stop the contamination from spreading. Additionally, workers did not receive the required instruction and training regarding the negative effects of lead and cadmium.

OSHA Area Director Chad Greenwood stated that long-term exposure to excessive levels of hazardous metals can seriously harm the neurological, reproductive, blood-forming, and urinary systems. He pushed the business to keep enhancing its engineering controls in order to lower worker exposure to dangerous pollutants.

After receiving the citations and penalties, Universal Recycling Technologies has 15 business days to either comply, request a conference with OSHA officials, or contest the findings.
