Waste Managed Outlines Ways to Recycle Halloween Plastic Waste

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A prominent waste management company in the UK, Waste Managed, has warned of the enormous amounts of Halloween plastic waste produced annually in the country.

They estimate that after Halloween, some seven million costumes are thrown out annually in the UK. Nearly 2,000 tons of plastic garbage are produced annually as a result of the fact that the vast majority of them are comprised of synthetic materials. Additionally contributing to the plastic waste are the single-use Halloween decorations. Approximately 18,000 pumpkins are also thrown away annually.

Steer clear of single-use plastics and try to build your own costumes. They could be donated to a good cause or used again after use. Instead of being disposed of in trash cans, the wasted pumpkins can be composted or used to make new dishes. Additionally, buy reusable decorations that you can use for years to come.

Steve Traviss, a sustainability specialist at Waste Managed, advised companies in the UK to encourage recycling and reduce packaging waste. Retailers and restaurants may install composting stations or serve pumpkin-based cuisine. In order to lessen their effects on the environment, he urged companies and consumers to embrace sustainable methods.
