Union County to Host Annual Halloween Pumpkin Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): From November 1 through November 30, the Union County Board of County Commissioners, in collaboration with the Bureau of Recycling and Planning, will organize the county's annual Pumpkin Recycling Program. Gourds, decorative pumpkins, and Halloween jack-o'-lanterns will all be accepted into the program.

Items will be received from citizens of any Union County town at seven locations, according to the County press release. In addition to certain Saturdays, depending on the locale, pumpkins will be accepted Monday through Friday at certain hours. Candles and other decorations must be taken out of pumpkins by residents. Additionally, no additional food waste will be accepted by the program.

The pumpkins gathered from different areas will be sent to Waste Management's specialist recycling facility in Elizabeth, where they will be transformed into an organic slurry.

The seven designated drop-off locations are: DPW facility located next to town hall, Berkeley Heights; 401 Sheridan Avenue, Kenilworth; 2 Donaldson Place, Linden; Rock Avenue, Plainfield; West Webster Avenue, Roselle Park; 1 Swanstrom Place East, Union Township and Lamberts Mill Road, Westfield.
