Greene County Recycling Center Announced Permanent Closure

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The recycling program, which formerly accepted a wide range of recyclables, including plastic, food and beverage cans, newspapers, paper, and cardboard, will be discontinued indefinitely, Green Arc in Greene County has informed the County Commissioners.

The recycling program has been suspended with effect from Tuesday and is no longer accepting items from residents. A sign on the facility's gate thanked all of the residents for their 20 years of support. It stated that after much deliberation, the challenging decision to stop operations on December 31, 2024, was made.

Assistant Chief Clerk Jeremy Kelly and Greene County Commissioner Jared Edgreen said they were taken aback by the decision. To allow households to continue disposing of recyclables, the County Commissioners are working to come to an arrangement with a garbage collection business. Edgreen reaffirmed the County's dedication to offering its citizens recycling services.

Over the previous five years, the number of townships in Greene County that provide recycling services has decreased from as many as ten to only three. People dropping down non-recyclable materials caused additional expenses and work for the programs.
