SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Avon has now become the first Colorado municipality to open a dedicated Styrofoam recycling center.
The large white bin placed at the Avon Recycling Center at 371 Yoder Avenue, past the Home Depot will accept clean, white, hard Styrofoam from residents. No tape or casing must be attached. The drop-off bin is open all throughout the year. All Eagle County residents are allowed to drop off items for free. The Styrofoam recycling program was launched on March 14, 2025.

Programs for recycling Styrofoam are already in place in other towns, such as Longmont. These initiatives gather foam, but commercial firms assist in compressing the foam that is gathered. The first such initiative to be put into action without a business collaboration is the recycling program run by the municipality of Avon. The town's public operations team will operate the Styrofoam densifier machine.
In March, the town's grant application for money to buy a Styrofoam densifier was approved. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity program then awarded Avon $111,105.
By 2050, the town wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80%, and the recycling center will help it achieve this goal.
