Bedford County Recycling Centres Announced Changes


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Bedford County announced some changes with respect to acceptance of certain recyclable materials at certain centres. The changes will be effective Friday, August 9, 2024.

The press release said that plastic recycling program has been started back at three centres located at Tollgate, 1099 Highway 82 South, Shelbyville; Unionville, 3380 U.S. 41A North, Unionville and El Bethel, 1760 U.S. 41A North, Shelbyville. These recycling centres will accept #1 and #2 plastics such as household plastic containers like milk jugs, plastic containers for cooking ingredients, soda plastic drinks. 

The newspaper recycling drop off points from all centers are being moved to the above three recycling centres. The El Bethel, Unionville, and Tollgate will serve as the County’s recycling center for all residences recycling needs. All these three centres will be open Monday through Saturday, 6:30 AM. - 4:30 PM. The other recycling centres will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Meantime, all eight recycling and convenience centres located throughout the county will continue to collect cardboard and aluminum beverage cans for recycling, as usual, from residents. Also, used tires without rims may be dropped at a fee of $2 per unit at the tire collection center on State Route 82 south of Shelbyville.
