SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners, in its recent meeting, has approved new Solid Waste Franchise Agreement with FCC Environmental Services, LLC. Under the contract, FCC Environmental will provide trash pickup and bi-weekly recycling pickup.
The contract will be valid for a seven-year period until 2031, with an option to extend for a period of one year. Upon completion of two years, FCC is entitled to an increase in subscriber cost based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, which should be in the range of 3.5% and 5%.
The contract outlines comprehensive plans to ensure smooth transition of services from Waste Pro and uninterrupted service. All residents will be provided with new rollout carts. The contract will carry a value of $95 million in services over seven years and $110 million inclusive of the additional one year. The investment required to serve out the contract is estimated at over $15 million.
Commenting on being awarded the contract, the company said that it marks a significant step as it is the first contract in North Carolina. It must be noted that FCC is currently active in California, Texas, Florida, Nebraska and Iowa states.
