City of O’Fallon Returns to Single-Stream Recycling

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): After nearly seven years, the City of O'Fallon, Missouri will resume single stream recycling. Following Chinese import restrictions in 2018, the city was compelled to abandon its single-stream recycling system and ceased to accept single-stream materials from the United States.

In addition to the shift, people can now mix paper and cardboard with their glass, plastic, and cans. Residents will not incur any additional costs as a result of the changeover to single stream recycling.

Before 2018, the city of O'Fallon used single-stream recycling, according to Tony Michalka, Chief Communications Officer. The city was compelled to abandon the initiative due to global changes. Over the past few years, the City Council has been trying to come up with a way to go back to a single stream. Michalka encouraged locals to use the new program in their houses.

The program is being rolled out in partnership with the City of St. Peters, where the recycling will be sorted. The city aims to finish distribution of new carts to all its residents by this summer. The residents will be provided information regarding delivery of new recycling cart through mail. Until the new cart arrives, the residents must use one of the three cardboard drop-off spots provided by the city.
